Thieves Targeting Airport Car Parks
Thieves are known to be targeting vehicles left by their owners in long stay airport parking lots. Although many of these car parks are supposedly secure the knowledgeable criminals are aware that the security cameras are not monitored 24 hours a day.

Thieves are aware that people tend to leave their satellite navigation systems in their cars while they travel abroad on business or for holidays. They are aware that most people will tend to leave their sat navs in their glove compartments, easily accessed after breaking a window.
Another worrying trend is the theft of car parts, especially wheels. There have been a number of cases in which thieves have stolen one or more wheels from vehicles left in the care of supposedly secure airport car parks.
Police recommend that you never leave your sat nav in your glove compartment. Its far better to leave your glove compartment empty and open so that thieves can see that there is nothing in it. If you can’t take your sat nav with you then lock it safely in your boot. Make certain that you take note of he make, model and serial number of your sat nav and keet this somewhere other than inside your vehicle. Always ensure that you have appropriate and adequate gadget insurance that covers your sat nav against theft.
As far as protecting against wheel theft it is recommended that you enable your car alarm and test it by nudging your vehicle. Also, never display any sort of sticker or decal that might indicate to a knowledgeable thief what type of car alarm you have.
When choosing a secure airport car park try and find one that has 24 hour, manned security with regular patrols, is well lit with CCTV coverage throughout.
