The Timex of My Life
We can all remember our first wrist watches. Mine was a child’s Timex given to me by my grandmother in the 1960s when I was aged around 5 or 6 years old, just when I was learning to tell the time at school.
I can clearly recall how grown up I felt, having my own wrist watch, just like my dad. It’s interesting to think that, only 100 years ago, men didn’t wear watches on their wrists. In those days men carried a pocket watch and it wasn’t until the First World War that the wrist watch gained popularity. Men found that the wrist watch was far more practical as it freed up both hands and didn’t get lost.
Jump forward to today and we find an almost bewildering selection of watches. I no longer have just one watch, I have several that I like to wear for different occasions and activities.
My Timex Ironman is probably my favourite. I’m a keen runner and I’ve been lucky enough to run is several London marathons. My Timex Ironman is always on my wrist when I run. This is the timepiece I use to tell me how bad, or good, my running performance has been.
Another of my favourites is my Timex Expedition. This is the watch I wear when I go rambling on the downs or camping in the summer. It has a particularly excellent night light and several alarms that can be set for both weekend lie-ins and weekday early-starts.
Timex watches have been with me all my life and it looks like I shall be wearing one when I finally shuffle off this mortal coil. They have been consistently reliable, always affordable and there are so many models and styles to choose from I’m always being tempted to buy another.

Timex are by far my favourite brand of watches. It’s interesting that certain brands tend to stay with us for life - like Woolworths. But I think Timex will survive - the quality of their watches is exceptional.
