Skin Cancer Cases Increase
Cancer Research UK has published figures that clearly indicate the increase in the number of skincare cancer cases every year. It has been estimated that the lifetime risk of developing skin cancer is 1 in 91 for men and 1 in 77 for women in the UK.
These frightening statistics were derived in February 2009 from data gathered from 2001 to 2005. Pay a visit to the Cancer Research UK website and you will see some worrying graphs showing the trends in rates of occurence spanning from 1975 to 2005. For example, in 1975 approximately 2 men in 100,000 might be expected to contract malignant melanoma (the most serious form of skin cancer). This figure had increased to around 14 men in 100,000 by 2005. A very worrying trend.
These trends also reflect the historic fashion for tanning. Luckily this fashion is now dying out and many people now avoid any exposure to the suns rays. One simple step that everyone can take is to ensure that your skin is protected with some high factor sun screen. While this is particularly important for anyone who has pale or sensitive skin it is also a good idea for anyone, even those with skin that tans easily.
For those who wear cosmetics it is a good idea to choose beauty products that contain a high factor sun screen. Don’t assume that your face cream will protect you. Check the ingredients to be certain.
If this coming summer is as hot as the weather-men say it is going to be we will all need to be sure that we apply plenty of sun protection, wear a good hat and keep our sensitive areas covered.

Oh it means sun is bad for us. From now onwards I will make it sure that I use sunscreen every time I go out.
