Myrtle Beach Hotels - An Artists’s Obsession!
There are photos of Myrtle Beach all over the internet. It looks gorgeous. But nothing can prepare you for the sheer beauty of it. It took my breath away.
Which is why, instead of writing the usual stuff about Myrtle Beach Accomodation, things to do, entertainment etcetera I thought I’d give an artist’s perspective.
I’m a painter and I visited Myrtle Beach for visual inspiration. Went over there on my own for a couple of weeks with a sketchbook, laptop and digital camera. I’ve always hated the thought of places like Disneyland - they’re just too weird… all those adults dressed as giant mice. Grim. I’m more of a landscape and wildlife woman so was looking forward to seeing the coastline’s famous turtles, rare birds and unique ecosystems.
As it turned out I filled seven sketchbooks, jammed my camera and memory sticks with images and - for two weeks - turned my Myrtle beach Accomodations into an artists’s studio. By the time I got home I was literally fizzing with creative energy and had to shut myself away for a whole week, painting like a woman possessed.
Was it the birds? Was it the animals? No, it was the light and the big, massive, empty skies.
There’s always something special about seaside light and artists flock to paint the sea. But the rosy dawn glow as the sun rises over the South Carolina coast is something else. A symphony of glorious colour, completely breathtaking. I’ve painted sky after sky, dawn to dusk, each on a huge canvas.
Right at this moment I’m hugging a cup of tea, relaxing with my laptop, writing this before starting the next painting… and planning which Myrtle Beach Hotels I fancy staying in next time. I’m dying to get back there and research painting the many moods of the sea…
