More Than 50 Million Watch DirectTV Packages
California satellite TV giant DirectTV looks likely to win their fifty-first millionth customer in 2009, with more than 50 million people plugged in as I write.
Of course, the US is huge. Even so the sheer spread of the Direct TV reach is astonishing. Think Sky and multiply it several times.
In the UK we probably get less than 100 TV stations, even with the best satellite package. But these guys offer hundreds of channels. More than 250. Honestly, you could spend a happy Saturday night in with a few beers just idly exploring them.
Say you spent five minutes on each channel. That’s 20 hours’ worth of DirectTV channel surfing. Even if you only spend 30 seconds on each channel you still get more than two hours’ worth of aimless pottering around your TV!
It’s probably best we don’t have it over here. We’d never get anything done. But, joking apart, DirectTV’s HD DVR services alone make many a technophiliac’s mouth water!
There’s a Direct TV System in more than 18 million homes across the US and latin America, the lucky things. Research shows no signs of Direct TV becoming available in the UK. But they’re growing steadily and gaining new customers aggressively. So who knows?
As someone who grew up with black and white TV, I can truly appreciate Direct TV Services. Today’s entertainment packages were impossible to imagine back then. Instead we huddled around our fuzzy wooden mono TV sets watching dreadful rubbish like the Black and White Minstrel Show, The Golden Shot and Love Thy Neighbour. .. long live 2009!
