How to Select the Right Heathrow Airport Hotel

It shouldn’t really be a surprise that there are so many top quality hotels serving busy Heathrow airport. But if you need a place to stay close to Heathrow the choice can be a little bewildering.

If you, like me, frequently fly to or from Heathrow and often need a place to stay in order to make that early morning flight then you will probably already have your favourite. But if you are only an occasional traveller how can you choose between the hotels available?

Location

One key aspect of any of the hotels serving Heathrow is of course their location relative to the airport and how long it can take to transfer to or from the airport terminals. Some hotels, such as the Marriott Windsor, are ideally located for a specific airport terminal, in this case terminal 5. Others, like the Radisson Plaza Hotel or the Premier Inn, are situated very close to the main Heathrow airport complex and are therefore ideal if you need a fast transfer. For example, the journey from the Heathrow Crown Plaza to the airport terminals takes only around 7 minutes.

Facilities

There is much competition amongst the hotels serving Heathrow so there are some great facilities available for both business and leisure travellers. The 4-star Heathrow Crown Plaza Hotel boasts Heathrow’s largest indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and fully equipped gymnasium and treatment rooms. The hotel also has a unique 9-hole golf course, two restaurants and two popular bars. People who have stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel have been consistent in their praise for the service, facilities and location of this prestigious and popular hotel.

If golf and swimming are not really for you but you still want a luxury hotel that is conveniently close to the airport then you may prefer the Sheraton Skyline Hotel. Situated only 1 mile from Heathrow Airport, you will not need to worry about lengthy transfer times. The hotel provides a fully equipped fitness centre and a fantastic Sky Garden which is a magnificent place to relax. Every Friday night the Sky Garden closes and it becomes one of the most fashionable nightspots in London hosting Mumbai Nights at the Sky Bar.

Price

One of the most important aspects of any Heathrow hotel, for many people, is the price. Most people, whether travelling for business or pleasure, like to watch their expenditure and so price is often top of their list of priorities. One of the most consistently well priced hotels in the Heathrow area is the Ibis Hotel. Situated about 1 mile from terminals 1,2 and 3 it is enormously convenient for the airport as well as the M4 and M25 motorways. At the time of writing a double room at this hotel would cost you only £77.

There are often discounted hotel rooms which offer travellers enormous savings, often as much as 35% cheaper than the full price. Hotel operators offer these rates by not providing specific details of the hotel, the rooms or the facilities available. If you are flexible in your requirements you can gain some significant savings by taking advantage of these super saver offers.

In a nutshell, if you need a hotel at Heathrow airport and price is your top priority then you should take advantage of the super saver offers provided by hotel operators. If you are travelling on a tight schedule you should opt for a hotel that is as close to your airport terminal as possible and if you want to make your trip more memorable and enjoyable why not go for one of the more up-market options available.
