At Home cards & Thank You cards… happy xmas!

Stationery, boring? Not a chance!

Big increases in the popularity of snail mail correspondence cards is good news if you’re stuck for Christmas gift ideas.

Until recently getting stationery for Christmas was about as exciting as getting a really bad Christmas jumper (you know, those ones with reindeer on!) or socks. But times are changing.

We’ve been bored with the post for many years now. Most people stopped writing letters in favour of their mobile phones, Facebook and email ages ago. Your daily delivery is more likely to contain bills and junk mail than anything exciting or fun.

When was the last time you got something personal in the mail other than Christmas and birthday cards?

Perhaps that’s one reason why At Home Cards, Correspondence Cards and Thank You Cards are coming back into vogue. It is such a treat, and so rare, to get a real card from someone, complete with a proper stamp, that people are suddenly becoming keen to use the post more. A card certainly stands out from all those emails.

Another reason is probably the maturing of digital print technology. Ten years ago you’d probably  pay a fortune for a small run of lithographically printed cards, because setting up vast litho machines was so expensive. Unless you wanted at least a thousand cards it wasn’t worth it.

Digital print has made small print quantities affordable for the first time and it is getting better value as time goes by and the technology improves.

The third reason correspondence cards are enjoying a revival? Probably because we’re very aware of design and style in the UK. A decade of high octane interior design and style-based TV programmes has led to a massive hike in demand for stylish goods that directly reflect lifestyle.

In response http://www.printed4U.com, the online invitation print experts, have put together a handful of unique correspondence cards, thank you cards and At Home cards.

“We’ve been really pleased to see the post coming back into popularity” says Tim Giberson, MD. The internet’s been flavour of the month for communications for a while now but, like all new things, it is settling down. People are returning to snail mail for special occasions as well as for everyday stuff.”
